Shawnee storms, 2024 to 2026
From National Weather Service storm reports, news coverage and the Storm Prediction Center logs. Times are Central.
- September 6, 2026 (about 6:30 PM): a photo of quarter-size hail 2 miles west of Shawnee, and large branches down near K-7 and Johnson Drive.
- May 18, 2026 (about 9:20 PM): a spotter reported 70 mph winds 2 miles west of Shawnee, and a tree and wires came down near Noreson Street.
- April 27, 2026 (about 5:40 AM): a spotter reported hail from 3/4 inch up to 1.75 inches 4 miles southwest of Shawnee.
- March 13, 2024: 3.5-inch hail was measured at 55th Street and McCormick Drive, with half-dollar hail in neighboring western Lenexa and quarter-size hail on Johnson Drive east of I-435.
- May 8, 2024: 2-inch hail was reported 1 mile east-southeast of Shawnee that morning.
- May 19, 2024: a brief EF-1 tornado (110 mph) in far western Shawnee damaged the Mill Valley High School athletic complex. The National Weather Service also noted roof damage to two nearby homes, including lost roof decking on one. A separate 80 mph straight-line wind path ran 5.6 miles through Shawnee.
Hail that size can crack shingles and dent metal, and three events in ten weeks means a roof could have been damaged more than once. If your roof was only patched in 2024, or never checked, a free inspection will tell you where it stands.

Our work in Shawnee
- We re-roofed a home in western Shawnee after the 2024 hail. The City of Shawnee approved the permit in May 2024, and the final building inspection passed in March 2025.
- Licensed roofing contractor in Johnson County, KS (Class DR, License #2026-0011661, valid through 2026), and we apply for the permit and schedule the inspections on every job that needs one.
What we check on a Shawnee roof
- Hail hits on shingles, ridge caps, vents, skylights and gutters
- Wind-lifted or creased shingles, especially in western Shawnee after May 19
- Decking soft spots, flashing and pipe boots
- Attic ventilation
Your written scope includes Good / Better / Best options. Better and Best add Malarkey Class IV impact-resistant shingle options, which are worth pricing in a city that saw 3.5-inch hail.
Replacing the roof on a larger Shawnee home
Shawnee has plenty of big two-stories with steep, many-valley roofs, and after the 2024 storms some of them need more than a patch. If you're replacing rather than patching, ask about premium architectural and designer shingle options, and we'll price them side by side in your scope. Financing for qualified homeowners: $0 down, 1 year no payments, no interest, subject to credit approval. See our workmanship guarantee and our Lenexa replacement page for more on larger homes and HOA approvals.
Repair or replace your Shawnee roof
If the damage is in one spot, such as flashing, a pipe boot, a few missing shingles or a lifted ridge cap, a repair is often enough. See roof repair in Kansas City for how a repair visit works.
If hail or wind damage is spread across the roof, or the roof is simply worn out, a replacement is usually the better spend. See roof replacement in Kansas City for our Good / Better / Best options with 5, 7 or 10-year craftsmanship warranties.
